About this video: In this video, I talk about how you can choose the perfect case for your gaming PC. There are four main factors you need to consider when looking for a case for your PC. The first is the size of your motherboard, the second is the look of the case, the third is cooling and cable management, and the fourth is, of course, the price.
So first up, the size of your motherboard. Why does this even matter? Well, there are 4 sizes of motherboards that people will typically look at when building a gaming PC. From smallest to largest, you have Mini-ITX, Mirco-ATX, ATX, and E-ATX. Certain cases are built to fit certain sizes of motherboards. For example, a Mini-ITX case isn't going to fit an E-ATX motherboard. With that being said, some ATX cases are also set up to hold mini-ITX and Mirco-ATX boards. Basically, you can never go up in size, but you can sometimes go down. Once you've figured out the size of your motherboard, most likely it is either micro-ATX or just ATX, you need to make sure you are only looking at cases that can fit this size of the motherboard.
So once you've figured out the size of the case you need, you need to think about the look. This is super subjective, and the case that might look great to you may look horrible to someone else, so just look around and find the case you that you want that looks good. Some cases are going to have side windows. Typically, the more expensive the case is the higher quality of material the side window is made out of, and some cases will have LED lighting built right in. It really just depends on what you are looking for when it comes to the aesthetic of your gaming PC.
Now, one thing to note, and this moves us on to number four, just because the case looks good doesn't mean that it is going to have good cooling or cable management. Out of the box, I like to see cases have one fan in the front and one in the back if we are looking at ATX cases. This makes sure the heat rises and is sucked out the back while cool fresh air is pulled in from the bottom. As far as cable management goes, I like rubber grommets covering holes to keep things looking nice and clean. Of course, nice cable management isn't required, and as long as there are some holes to run cables, the case will work perfectly fine.
Last but not least, you need to consider price when looking for a case. You can get a really good PC case for right around $50, and you can get one that will get the job done with good airflow for under $30. However, the more you spend the more features you will you get in regards to cable management, materials, LED lighting, and more. What you spend is really up to you, but I wouldn't recommend going under $25 for a case. Less than that, and you are seriously sacrificing quality.
And there you have it! Those are the main things that you need to consider when choosing the case for your PC. If you have any specific questions, please post them in the comment section below, and we will try our best to help you.
