About this video: So you're building a #GamingPC, and you know you need a good graphics card, a competent CPU, and at least 8GB of RAM, but what about your hard drive? Every PC has one but is there anything you should specifically look for in a gaming hard drive? What about an SSD? Well, in this video, I am going to be answering all of those questions and more!
Now, first things first let's talk about the difference between a standard hard drive or #HDD and a solid state drive or SSD. I could get very technical here, but in general, an SSD is much faster at loading data than a traditional HDD. This is because on an SSD there are no moving parts whereas, on an HDD, there are. The downside of using an SSD over an HDD is that SSDs are typically much smaller than your normal hard drive.
For example, for $100 you can get a 4TB drive from Western Digital, a super trusted hard drive company. That same $100 will get a 500GB SSD from Samsung. Yep! You heard that right. For the same price, you get one-eighth of the data. Because of this, it typically doesn't make sense to store games on an #SSD. They are much too expensive to store your entire game library on them. That is where having both an SSD and an HDD comes in.
Let's take that original $100 example. You could use that $100 to get a 1TB Western Digital Blue HDD and a 240GB ADATA SSD. You would actually have $16 left over, and this combo would allow you to put your operating system, programs, and even your favorite 25GB game on the SSD while storing the rest of your library on your HDD. Sure the games on your HDD will take a bit longer to load, but that's okay because you didn't break the bank to store them and you probably aren't playing them as often.
With that being said, you don't need an SSD, but if you get one, it will make your PC boot a lot faster, and it will help with your overall gaming experience as the games you play the most often will be able to open quickly. If you've never used an SSD, I assure you, there is a huge difference in boot times.
If you are on a super tight budget though, I would actually suggest skipping out on the SSD and just getting a 1TB HDD. For most people, this will be plenty, and you can always expand as you need more storage. When this video goes up, I would start considering adding an SSD to a build until you reach the $1,000 mark. Then, the extra money need will be worth spending.
And that is how you can choose the perfect hard drive for your gaming PC. Whether you are looking at an SSD for gaming or just want to know if you can only have a standard HDD in a gaming PC, this video will help you out! Be sure to like the video a subscribe if it did help you pick your gaming PC's hard drive. It really helps us out, and it means a ton to me!
